Moon of the Crusted Snow: An Archetypal Analysis
The main character in the book “Moon of the Crusted Snow is
Evan Whitesky. Evan is a hunter and a
hard worker. He takes care of his young
family and he works to take care of the community. He is a young man that values his culture and
upbringing and is committed to providing for his wife Nicole and their two
children, Maiigan and Nanghons. Nicole
takes care of the children, teaching them about their heritage while making
sure that they also have modern education to help them in their future. Evan is the hero in the book because when the
power goes out in the community he steps up and takes the lead to first make
sure his family has enough food to make it through the winter and also heat to
keep them warm as winter approaches. He
works with Chief Terry and the rest of the community councel to communicate
with the community about measures to take while the power is out. He speaks with his parents for advise and he
is constantly looking to his roots for survival. Evan is a very loyal man and when winter
hits, he out making sure roads are clean and people are able to move around the
community.
Evan reminds me of my own father. He is the provider of the family and works
very hard to make sure we have a roof over our head and food on the table. He encourages me every day that you can do
anything if you want if you work hard and stay true to your foundation. Not a day goes by that we as a family don’t
express our gratitude for all the blessing in our life. Family and our culture is the most important
part of our life and giving back to the community we live in is so important to
really show gratitude. I feel that Evan
is definitely grateful and is very committed to helping his family and
community get through this crisis as well as trying to keep people safe.
When a visitor named Scott showed up in the community from
another community down south, we saw a different Evan. Scott came to the community late at night on
a snowmobile pulling a large bag behind him. Evan was very bothered by his
story about the community he came from and did not trust that he was here to
help the community get through this crisis.
He proclaimed to be resourceful and could teach all how to survive. Evan became confrontational and very
possessive of his community. He had a
bad feeling about him and actually came across as racist towards the visiting
“white man”.
